Fashion Conscious

Born inElement 6 Arts - New York | Hong Kong | Dubai | Paris | Amsterdam | Moroccoand of Indian descent, Malini travelled extensively from an early age, and has lived in London, Switzerland and New York.

Nurturing an almost precocious and ever-present interest in fashion meant that choosing an academic path was not difficult. Malini moved to New York, enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and in 1994 earned her degree in fashion buying and communications.

Her first assignment, in PR, led to a close involvement in the opening of Vivienne Westwood’s first Soho store. It was also at this time that Malini started developing her own designs, co-launching her first luxury handbag business in 1997. Three years later, she struck out alone, launching her eponymous handbag label. Over the next ten years, Malini Murjani accessories became an international success, selling at Harrods, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and many other high-end stores worldwide. Featured in Vogue, W, and Harper’s Bazaar, celebrity clients included Angelina Jolie and Alicia Keys.

Branching out into consulting in 2005, Malini worked for both up-and-coming and established brands, such as Halston, Tommy Hilfiger and Theory. Still engaged in this work and running her own line, she also spent a year in 2008 as Creative Director of handbag label Isabella Fiore.

In 2011, Malini co-created a new accessories line with Spanish-American artist Domingo Zapata. The result went beyond the beautifully painted and crafted pieces, and became a long-term collaboration. A true meeting of art and fashion, their partnership led to the opening of the acclaimed Gramercy Gallery in Singapore, as well as continued noise around his work in London, New York and Miami.

Malini continued to develop her design and curatorial work, and today she is an informed and passionate curator with extensive knowledge of the global art scene and unparalleled access to it. She works with an exclusive network of galleries worldwide and represents a select number of artists and photographers including Domingo Zapata, Peter Beard and Bert Stern. With an unusual combination of creative and business flair, Malini applies her expertise to understanding a client’s taste and requirements, and translating them into specially commissioned pieces or full curatorial solutions for private and corporate environments. Working directly with an edited selection of clients and artists means she builds strong and lasting partnerships, and looks after them every step of the way, from brief to delivery and beyond.

Malini lives with her daughter in New York and is currently curating projects in London, New York, LA,Element 6 Arts - New York | Hong Kong | Dubai | Paris | Amsterdam | Moroccoand Dubai.
