Finnish Tango in NYMixed Media Canvas 16" X 20" | 2012
Finland, the accordion and a paper sun - wherever I go, Scandinavia goes with me - memories brought to the streets of NY.
Good and Evil IIUSA has many icons: the flag, religion, the punk rocker GG Allin; each one crazier and uniquely more (or less) American than the other.
Folk DanceMixed Media Canvas "30 X "24 | 2012
Dance for the folks, by the folks - an old Scandinavian tradition with old Scandinavian Folk Music and dresses.
Occupy IMixed Media Canvas "30 X "24 | 2012
Wall Street is a Circus, a merry-go-round - as I joined the Occupy Wall Street Movement, on several occasions it dawned on me that it too was a Circus on so many different levels - only controlled by death riding into its the dawn.
Occupy IIMixed Media Wood Panel "18 X "14 | 2012
Wall Street stood under water - literally - as Sandy swept in with its fury, but both business and movements shall go on.
BirchMixed Media Canvas 47" X 24" | 2012
I lived in Umeå, the City of Birches, in the Northern parts of Sweden - these birch trees were found in Central Park and death was later added as a symbol of the fact that nothing lives on forever.
The Spirit of LoveMixed Media Canvas 36" X 34" | 2012
A rather naive painting explaining the story of “earth to earth”, water and the sky - but even with love, things can sometimes seem upside down and difficult to quite understand.
Oh, Yoko.Mixed Media Canvas 19" X 24" | 2010
John was the Saint, Yoko the dark force that stole him away from all of us. To me, John would not have been who he was without Yoko. This is a homage to her and her wonderful persona (and in some ways also a homage to those who live life in another's shadow).
The FoolMixed Media Canvas "10 X "10 | 2010
In NY anyone can be a fool, and for that matter, some are fools all of the time and are comfortable in this role. We all play our roles whether we like them or not - I often meet the roles and I frequently fall in love with them.
Folk Dance in BrooklynMixed Media Canvas "16 X "20 | 2012
Sometimes I dream about these Scandinavian Norse figures, and I can see them dance in the dusk of the mornings down by the Brooklyn Bridge while the rest of New York is sleeping.
Ingmar Bergman's DevilMixed Media Canvas "30 X "40 | 2012
Ingmar Bergman was one of the worlds most celebrated film director’s – like most of us, he had both a dark and a light side to him. Here, he is suffering the trauma of religion in front of the Brooklyn Bridge in the smiles of a summer night.
LoversAcrylic Paper "20 X "16 | 2010
Love is like the warm sound of a Tuba or the screaming madness from a Trumpet.
Lovers IIAcrylic Paper "20 X "16 | 2010
In love we wear different faces - we touch - and we desperately want to know each others deepest wrinkles and scars.
Lady by the Brooklyn BridgeAcrylic Paper "16 X "20 | 2010
Another portrait of the forgotten in NY - a lonely person that fascinated me and forced me to paint her story.
Norse Folk MusicMixed Media Canvas "24 X "26 | 2012
With old Norse magic, the key-harp comes to life - in a set just like the “Magic Flute”, Norsemen rule the nights and the darkness of NY.
Nix in Nykarleby, NYCMixed Media Canvas 30" X 24" | 2012
I grew up in Nykarleby, Finland, where a yellow church stands beside the Black River. On some nights or early mornings, the Nix could be seen performing in the dark and cold waters. The Nix is a character from the old Norse Mythology - and he was said to sit in rivers, playing the violin in the nude. He lured young women to him with the beauty of the violin and its sound and when they got too close he dragged them down into the water with him to never be seen again...
Midsummer LoveMixed Media Canvas 30" X 24" | 2012
Midsummer is the largest holiday in Scandinavia by far - we head out to meet nature and embrace ourselves with it. We raise the Midsummer Pole and dance around it. We eat, drink and make love for three days and nights. We multiply...
LaplandMixed Media Canvas 20" X 20" | 2012
Lapland is an area in the most Northern parts of Scandinavia, shared by Sweden, Finland and Norway. They’ve managed to keep their traditions and culture intact despite the Scandinavian government's attempts at destroying them. Lapland and it’s people are beauty to my eyes.
The Priest, The Lover and the JudgeMixed Media Canvas 24" X 24" | 2010m
Most of us are invisible: in love, business and beliefs.
Multicultural BaptismMixed Media Wood Panel "56 X "35 | 2012
All together as one: Jesus, the lamb, the evil son, the Chinese maker of love - in a common Baptist Ritual on the East River below the Brooklyn Bridge.
